Maybe we could write to Columbia and ask them is this normal for it to come off like that? My friend has the same type of jacket, but hers doesn't leave tiny shiny particles. He called me personally to hear the full story. Upon hearing he commented that the employee who sold them to me should have been more forthcoming and offered to return the skis and give me my money back. More than fair, in my opinion. Too bad it took raising such a stink to get anywhere. As to Volkl, this may be my last pair of their skis. The friend I bought them from went to 404's. He's already had some (albeit minor) issues with wheels staying true. Right now, I'd say go for the Rovals, especially if you can score a good deal. But if money's no object and you're hardcore, I'd have a look at some custom carbon wheels built around King hubs with a higher spoke count. I wouldn't worry about using carbon wheels. I have been using them for 3+ years now and I race on sometimes bad roads here in Ireland. I had a set of Zipp 404's but the hubs kept on loosening and there was some slight flex in them when sprinting out of corners. To be honest, your concern is exactly what I was concerned about. I'm 6'0" and 210# (after this Winter) but usually go around 200#. Thus far, they seem to be holding up fine and I really don't feel any flex. But I will be watching closely. In all candor, I have some concerns that I should even be on carbon wheels. If I don't end up keeping these, I will go to a custom aluminum hoop with King hubs. Some folks are more inclined to be cold than others. You also build up cold tolerance through exposure. Plus, you have factors like wind, rain, snow, and other atmospheric conditions that impact the perception of cold. And finally, there's duration of exposure. I will tell you this -- I've sat in that jacket in a duck boat on a day with 20 degree temps, and 25mph winds for an entire 8-hour day without getting cold!Sean Hickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15452360267813746949noreply@blogger.com
